In today's lesson we will look at examples of popular logos. What is a logo? A logo is a symbol or icon that represents a corporation, a team, a product, or an organization. Think about what your own logo would look like. Use pencil to design a logo that represents yourself. When you are creating your logo, keep it simple, do not use a lot of details.
Color it with whatever you have at home.

This video defines different kinds of logos.

In today's lesson we will draw and paint an Eastern Bluebird. Bluebirds are beautifully colored birds that we can enjoy seeing in our own backyards. They require special houses and open areas where they can find insects to eat. We have bluebird boxes that Mr. Carrajat cares for and are fortunate to have a pair share our backyard every spring and summer.  My drawing directions are attached below for future reference.

In this video you can hear the Eastern Bluebirds call. Maybe you have heard it already.

This video shows two bluebird parents feeding their babies.

5-12-20 Grade 3 Art Lesson - Origami Fox and Pig

Origami is the art of paper folding. We have practiced making origami animals in the lower grades. Today we will make an origami fox and pig. You do not need special origami paper to make these. Have fun!

In this next video you can see the incredible work of Kamiya Satoshi, a world famous origami artist.
This is a fast motion video showing Kamiya Satoshi making one of his dragons.

Origami Facts

  • Origami is the ancient Japanese art of paper folding.
  • The name origami comes from two Japanese words ‘ori‘(to fold) and ‘kami ‘(paper).
  • The, kami, also means ‘spirit’ or ‘god’ and origami was first used only for religious ceremonies.
  • The origami that we know today is greatly influenced by the master origami artist Yoshizawa Akira. For centuries, the same traditional folds were made but in the 1950s he published books showing many more models of origami other than the traditional ones. This reintroduced origami to people around the world.

Paper Sculpture

The video below explains what the Principles of Design are including MOVEMENT.

This video shows the versatility of sculpting with paper.

Written Directions for Paper Movement Sculpture

If you do not have colored paper, use your crayons to color some white paper. Cut your colored paper into strips that are about an inch wide. Make cuts along one side of the strip about a half inch apart and halfway through the strip. Fold the tabs that you have cut alternating with one folded on one side and the next folded toward the other side. Glue the tabs down to a paper curving your strips as you go to show MOVEMENT.

We talked about Vincent van Gogh in our last lesson and looked at one of his self-portraits. He painted many still life paintings like the one below. Remember a still life is not only a vase of flowers or a bowl of fruit. A still life can be anything that cannot move. Choose some of your favorite things or toys. Set them up so that they look well arranged to your eye. Draw a still life of your favorite things using whatever you have at home, pencils, crayons, or markers.

Watch the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qv8TANh8djI. It tells us about Vincent van Gogh's life and shows us examples of his paintings. We have learned about Vincent van Gogh and should recognize some of his work. Vincent made many self-portraits in his lifetime. Watch my demonstration video below to help you with drawing a face.  Get some paper and a pencil and ask someone at home for a mirror to look at yourself while you draw your own self-portrait.
