Today we are going to use the Element of Art, Space, to make some bookmarks for all of your summer reading. These bookmarks are landscapes which show a vast distance of space. We will use some drawing tricks to show how to create that illusion of space.
This is an Art Quest video with a great explanation of Space.

Let's have some fun with Origami. Remember, Origami is the Art of paper folding and it comes from the country of Japan. You do not need special paper to do Origami, but it must be square. Fold a rectangular piece of paper one corner over to meet the side of the paper and cut off the excess. You will have a square. Try making the rabbit and penguin below.
Watch this beautiful video about the history of Origami.

This video introduces us to the world famous Origami artist Robert Lang.
Origami Facts
- Origami is the ancient Japanese art of paper folding.
- The name origami comes from two Japanese words ‘ori‘(to fold) and ‘kami ‘(paper).
- The, kami, also means ‘spirit’ or ‘god’ and origami was first used only for religious ceremonies.
- The origami that we know today is greatly influenced by the master origami artist Yoshizawa Akira. For centuries, the same traditional folds were made but in the 1950s he published books showing many more models of origami other than the traditional ones. This reintroduced origami to people around the world.
5-5-20 Grade 2 Art Lesson- Symmetry Collage
Only complete this lesson for today.
This is a wonderful video showing symmetry in nature.

This video has a cute song singing about types of symmetry.

In our last lesson we used our names to make a "Crazy Creature" with symmetry. Hopefully, you watched both videos and you understand what symmetry means. Today I would like you to go outside and with help from mom or dad, collect some objects from nature. (Remember, leaves of three let them be. It could be poison ivy.) First, I painted the back of a paper plate with water color. If you do not have a paper plate you could use a sheet of paper. Then arrange and glue your nature objects to make a collage that has symmetry.
Claude Monet is one of the world’s most famous artists. When you were in Kindergarten, I read you a story about a little frog who visited Claude Monet's garden. Monet loved to paint flowers, especially the flowers that bloomed in a pond that he made in his garden. Watch my demonstration video below for directions.
